About Us

We are award winning professional photographers specialising in the portraiture of people and animals, commercial photography, stock photos, photo art, event coverage and digital image retouching and restoration.

Denise enjoys nothing more than seeing the world through a camera lens, and has been enthralled with photography since childhood. She has a Diploma in Freelance Photography, and is a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Rex, on the other hand, loves to write as well as make pictures. His journalism qualifications bias him toward making the pictures to tell a story.

Pen & Pixels Ltd was established in 2003 by Rex and Denise. It has two core aspects, photography and journalism, with this website dedicated to showcasing our photography.

Our office and studio is centrally located between Hamilton, Cambridge and Morrrinsville in the heart of the Waikato, New Zealand. We also travel to our clients and have a comprehensive portable studio with lighting and backdrops. Of course, with the digital age, the world is now a much smaller place and we are able to provide clients worldwide with our stock images.

Our photography focus (excuse the pun) has evolved over the last few years to primarily portraiture, commercial, stock photos, photo art, event coverage and photo restoration and retouching. We no longer cover weddings unless arranged by special appointment.

We both have a strong affiliation to nature and enjoy creating stunning images of flora and fauna. Living in New Zealand provides ample opportunity to capture the natural beauty which surrounds us, but we have also travelled to such places as Cambodia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, Europe, Czech Republic, Pacific Islands, Australia, Hawaii, China and Japan - to name a few.
